I let the other actors who were in scenes with him know that he probably wasn't going to be hanging out with them, you know, at lunch. He wasn't gonna be yucking it up between takes. The chances are he was gonna treat them the way he imagined Mark treated the people around him. We're going to keep him out of the box. No, we're going, we don't need Rose. mr sorkin always in honor sir you ever get tired of making amazing stuff or you're just going to keep doing it oh what a nice thing for you to say thanks uh i thank you for your time i just kind of just want to start out with a fun question because so much of this movie obviously focuses on the impact that facebook has had on all of us individually what our likes and our comments and our shares have the power to do to us you have written some of the greatest characters in the history of movies and television of all the characters you've created whose facebook page would you like to see see what they're liking see what they're sharing and and and making the impact that maybe the the impact of the algorithm has had on them that's funny uh i actually don't have social media uh i had a facebook account for the period of time that i was working on this film um uh but other than that not but uh uh the facebook page uh i'd most like to see um maybe jeremy strong's uh uh because i i really know jeremy only from the characters that he's played and i've worked with him three times um i i know very little about you know the the real guy fair enough you know i i was fascinated with the fact that you know speaking of jeremy strong there has been a lot of discussion about his method method of acting obviously he you know he famously stays in character stating character as mark mark zuckerberg between takes i believe he he wrote you some letters as Mark Zuckerberg um one I'd love to hear about the letters but also as a writer as a director what is your take on on actors staying in character between takes does that affect your job at all you know uh yes Jeremy is a very immersive actor I never he showed up on set speaking as Mark um I never heard him use his own voice until his last day of shooting when I called cut he walked over to me and uh suddenly was speaking as himself uh i let the other actors who were in scenes with him know that he probably wasn't going to be hanging out with him you know at lunch he wasn't gonna be yucking it up between takes the chances are he was gonna treat them the way he imagined mark treated the people around him which means he was going to put headphones on and really just not be with anyone else um uh but i told them it's not nonsense uh okay this is for real uh and the results speak for themselves uh as you'll see um so uh it's not at all difficult to uh to work with it's it's his performance in this film is thunderous I think after the first maybe 60 seconds of seeing him in the film last night, I think I literally uttered the words, holy shit. Like he is fantastic. Good. Yes, he is. In 2019, I believe, you wrote the open letter to Mark Zuckerberg in New York Times, and you're criticizing Facebook's policy of allowing false political ads. And then he, I Believe, responded by, I Think, quoting the speech from the American president, the America is an easy speech. I'd love to know, what was that experience like for you, and did that interaction at all have any impact in how you shaped this film? I was surprised, A, that he reacted at all, and B, that it was with that, that He was quoting the speech from the American president, which is a speech that Michael Douglas' character in that movie is giving in defense of unpopular opinions, that we have a First Amendment that protects unpopular opinions. And I thought, surely Mark, who is very smart, and the people around him who are very smart surely they know the difference between an unpopular opinion and a lie. And so it was your right. It was back in 2019 that the seed of the social reckoning was planted. Mr. Sorkin, they're giving me the rap. One, I just want to thank you for just a lifetime of incredible work that I've told you many times. Our first time meeting was the Harvard Club for the social network. And I still have, not in a creepy way, a framed photo of us in my home. So it is always an honor. It doesn't sound creepy to me at all. I really appreciate it. Thanks. Yes, sir. Take care. Good to see you, sir, sir to see, sir take care. Take care, man. we don't need
